第一，动词活用。
平时学的动词很多，但是我们不会活用。英文小说里的动词用得更好。
比如：
Caitlin flashed her secretary a grateful smile.
Dot shot her a curious glance.
She forced a laugh.
He stormed into her office.
对我们初学者来说，用活这些动词就可使文章增色不少。
此类很多，在此不一一列举。

第二，俚语、习语。
Sam always chose five-thirty Friday afternoon to [ throw a tantrum].
He's got   [a slew of ] solid American references.
Lovers and husbands are   [two a penny] . Good friends are   [a heck of ] a lot harder to find.
If a woman ever did manage to find a lover who was also a friend,then I guess she'dhave   [a match made in heaven].
Jeff and I are so happy that we're practically swinging from the chandelieos.
