A man who reportedly held a grudge against a hospital over his father's death 13 years ago vented his pent-up anger Friday when he allegedly stabbed a doctor to death and injured a nurse at the hospital in Jinan, Shandong Province.
The local police said the 45-year-old suspect, surnamed Zhou, killed a female doctor at the tumor center of Qilu Hospital at about 8 am Thursday. Zhou managed to escape after the murder but returned to the hospital at 7:20 am Friday and stabbed a nurse.
The knife-wielding assailant was arrested after
slashing the nurse, local police said at a press conference.
Sun Lianhe, a spokesman for Jinan police, said Zhou, a native, blamed his father's death 13 years ago on the hospital's mistakes and took his revenge by assaulting members of the current medical staff.
His father was admitted to the hospital for liver cancer in 1997 and died afterwards. Both of Zhou's stabbing victims worked with the hospital's tumor center, Sun said.
The doctor working the night shift was found lying on the floor near the entrance of a toilet with
her stomach cut open, qilu.com, the website of a Shandong TV Station, said.
The alleged killer managed to sneak back into the hospital Friday morning despite beef-up security after the doctor's death. The 30-year-old nurse was buying breakfast when she was stabbed, the report said.
Sun said Friday that police had difficulties safeguarding the hospital.
"The hospital is an open area that allowed different people to go in and out," Sun said. "It's impossible for the police to check every one carefully."
An employee at the hospital told the Global Times that the nurse was slashed in the face, adding that the hospital is negotiating with the victims' family for compensation.
Zhang Lei, a local resident, told the Global Times that Zhou did not seem to show any remorse. "When he was caught by the policemen, he told the bystanders that he just slaughtered a pig, not a human being," Zhang said.
A local police insider told the Global Times that the suspect was undergoing mental evaluation.到国际网站黏贴上面的新闻,会有更大影响。
