Dear Friends and colleagues:
We all have heard about fraud and plagiarism, particularly from China, but
you have to see it to believe.
The past three days have been the most difficult and furious time for me in
the three years serving as the Editor-in-chief of JHO, and in my career as a
scientist. I wish to share this experience with you, and hope you will
never have to deal with this.
A manuscript was submitted to JHO three days ago from XXX Med University
affiliated hospital. I took a quick look, and the data are beautiful, the
languages need works. I was very excited, thinking this may be the best
paper so far submitted to JHO. I wanted to have a careful review of the
paper, therefore contacted experts in the field, and not using the reviewers
authors requested. To my surprise, the first reviewer returned a review
immediately, and informed me that the data of the manuscript were 100%
pirated from her publication in Blood in 2007. I immediately confirmed the
fact, and was appalled by the flagrant plagiarism ( the blood paper and the
submitted figures attached). I could never imagine that anybody would or
would dare to do this.
What is more saddening and terrifying is that the same group has done
exactly the same thing and already published a paper in Medical Oncology in
feb 2011 by pirating another Blood paper published in 2008.
I hope our professor friends and colleagues educate your staff and hope this
will never happen to any of us.
Regards,
Delong
